President, Millennium Recycling
Shannon Dwire is President of Millennium Recycling, Inc., a regional single-stream material recovery facility (MRF) serving customers across the Upper Midwest. Dwire oversees all aspects of the company including operations, sales, marketing, and business development.
With over 25 years of experience in the recycling industry, Dwire has been instrumental in growing Millennium into the leader it is today. Raised on a dairy farm in southwest Minnesota, Dwire started her career after earning a degree from Southeast Technical College and has been with Millennium since it began in 1999, working from the bottom up to become President of the company in 2018.
Over the years, Dwire has provided leadership for Millennium’s robust services and programs including the expansion of new recyclable materials, developing community education, and building employee mentorship and advocacy programs focused on individuals with hardships ranging from addiction and incarceration to homelessness. The company introduced single-stream recycling to the region in 2007, started a successful nonprofit for waste diversion in 2014, and brought electronics scrap recycling to the state in 2004, which has since spun off as its own business, SEAM.
Dwire serves on the City of Sioux Falls Solid Waste Planning Board and is a member of ISRI, the South Dakota Solid Waste Management Association, and SWANA’s National and State Chapters of Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa.
