Rick Peters is the deputy director for Public Works in Phoenix, Arizona, where he is responsible for the city’s two transfer stations, which received 600,000 residential tons and 235,000 commercial tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) in 2017. He also oversees ongoing maintenance, five closed landfills and an active landfill, as well as two city-owned recycling plants and a compost facility.
Peters has a bachelor’s in productions and operations management from the Ohio State University. His career spans 35 years, beginning with Waste Management in Columbus, Ohio as a route auditor and dispatcher and ending as a general manager. He has also worked with Greenstar Recycling and ReCommunity Recycling.
