Berry Co, Anchorage, Alaska, the publisher of the Alaska Communications-branded Yellow Pages, has completed its sixth-annual Think Yellow, Go Green recycling program in Anchorage.
The program encourages residents and businesses to bring their outdated directories to one of the "Think Yellow, Go Green" collection bins around the city. Residents also are encouraged to place the directories in their curbside bins for recycling following distribution of the 2014 directories in Anchorage. Berry partnered with Fred Meyer stores, University of Alaska-Anchorage (UAA) and Alaskans for Litter Prevention (ALPAR) on the program.
From June 21 to July 31, 20 tons of outdated telephone directories were collected at Fred Meyer stores, the Alaska Communications parking lot, on UAA's campus and in curbside bins across the city. The directories will be recycled and converted into reusable materials, such as home insulation and mulch, by Alaska Waste.
“We're committed to keeping directories out of landfills in Anchorage and across the country and each directory recycled helps us protect the local environment,” says Chris Vaughn, Berry Co.’s branch manager in Anchorage. "We are proud to have partners like Fred Meyer, ALPAR and UAA, which care about the Anchorage community as much as we do, and would like to thank the Anchorage residents for their support of the program every year.”
