The board of directors of International Paper (IP), Memphis, Tennessee, has elected Mark Sutton, currently its president and chief operating officer, as its next chairman and CEO. He will replace John Faraci, who is retiring after serving as CEO and chairman of IP since November 2003.
Sutton will assume the position of CEO effective Nov. 1, 2014 and the chairman’s position effective Jan. 1, 2015.
“Mark Sutton’s election as CEO and chairman and the other changes we are announcing today reaffirm International Paper’s ongoing commitment to developing a strong, deep bench that will lead the company to an even more successful future,” says Faraci. “Under Mark's leadership, I am confident that International Paper’s best days are ahead.”
IP also announced the following changes to its management staff:
- Thomas Kadien was named senior vice president, human resources, communications and global government relations along with his current supply chain responsibilities.
- Timothy Nicholls was named senior vice president-industrial packaging, effective Nov. 1. Nicholls is currently senior vice president, printing and communications papers – the Americas.
- William Hoel, who was IP’s acting senior vice president of industrial packaging, will become senior vice president-container for the Americas.
- W. Michael Amick, Jr. was elected senior vice president-North America papers, pulp and consumer packaging, effective Nov. 1. He currently serves as IP’s vice president and president, IP India, and executive chairman, International Paper APPM Ltd.
- Glenn Landau was elected IP senior vice president and will continue as president-IP Latin America, with responsibilities for operations in Brazil.
- Rampraveen Swaminathan was named president-IP India, effective Nov. 1.
