Fiber Procurement Manager, Smurft Kappa North America
Andrew Kern is the Fiber Procurement Manger for Smurfit Kappa North America Recycling. Andrew works with a team responsible for procuring fiber for the company’s 100 percent recycled containerboard mill in Forney, Texas, as well as sourcing in North America for the company’s other mills throughout the Americas and Europe.
This team helps secure quality furnish by providing service to suppliers through six recycling plants in three states, an extensive flatbed route network that operates in five states and a brokerage business that spans coast to coast.
The Smurfit Kappa North America Recycling group serves as an integrated resource to its packaging business, helping customers achieve true closed loop sustainability goals and promoting circular economies. Kern joined Smurfit Kappa five years ago through the acquisition of Corrugated Services, Inc./Orange County Container Group. In addition to his work with Smurfit Kappa, Andrew has over 16 years of recycling experience in sourcing, marketing, logistics, and both domestic & export movement of recovered paper for Corrugated Services, Orange County Container Group and Smurfit Stone.
Andrew received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and has also served as a board member for the North Texas Corporate Recycling Association and the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling Business Council.
