
Scott DeFife
President, Glass Packaging Institute
Scott DeFife has served for six years as president of the Glass Packaging Institute, the trade association for the North American glass container manufacturing industry and its supply chain partners. He also serves as president of the board for the Glass Recycling Foundation and is a member of the board of directors for The Recycling Partnership.
Scott is actively involved in national extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws and programs for packaging. He serves on the Colorado EPR Producer Responsibility Advisory Board and the Maryland EPR Advisory Council.
Before his current role in the glass container and recycling industry, Scott was vice president of government affairs for the Plastics Industry Association and executive vice president for government affairs and communications for the National Restaurant Association. He also served as senior managing director of government affairs for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
Scott began his 35-year career in public affairs with 20 years of experience at the state and municipal government levels, working on energy, environmental, budget and tax issues with governors, state legislatures and municipal utilities. He later served in the U.S. House of Representatives, focusing on energy, environmental, economic and financial policy with several members of Congress from Texas, Missouri and Tennessee. He concluded his Capitol Hill career in the offices of the U.S. House majority leader and minority whip.
Scott is a native of Houston and holds degrees in communications and a master’s in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife and son.
